During World War II a small number of surgeons were asked to care for and do hand surgery on injured U.S. soldiers in specialized surgery centers. One of those surgeons was Dr. Ben Fowler. These centers were the birth place of surgery of the hand and one of TOA's founding members started it all. Other TOA surgeons followed in Dr. Fowler's footsteps and became President of American Society of the Hand. This abundant history has led to TOA's Center of Expertise in the area of hand, wrist, elbow that is known throughout the U.S.
