Stewart F. Stowers, MD
Dr. Stowers graduated Summa Cum Laude from Duke University School of Engineering in 1977 with a B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering and received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1981. After two years of general surgery residency training at the University of Minnesota, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He completed a research Fellowship at the University of Cincinatti studying knee ligament mechanics and injuries to the cruciate ligaments. He completed a Clinical Fellowship at the Hughston Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Stowers became a member of Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance with his partners from Nashville Orthopaedic Associates with whom he had practiced with since 1989. He specializes in Sports Medicine, inclusive of sports injuries and Total Joint Replacement, with further emphasis on ACL reconstruction, total knee replacement and rotator cuff repairs. He is a member of the medical staffs at Baptist Hospital and Centennial Medical Center. Since the early 1980's Dr. Stowers has published numerous works and presented at professional meetings on a variety of topics primarily concerning athletic injuries to the knee and the shoulder. He works very closely with numerous local sports teams.
