James L. Rungee, MD

Dr. Jim Rungee is a 1979 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and a 1985 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the Association for the Study and Application of the Ilizarov Method (ASAMI).

Dr. Rungee, a native of Murfreesboro, joined Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance in 1995 after 11 years of active duty in the U.S. Army. His military experience afforded him several unique medical opportunities. He was assigned Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery with the 86th Evacuation Hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. He also served as the Group Surgeon for the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), the elite Green Beret unit stationed at Fort Cambell, Kentucky. During this assignment, he led a medical team to Addis Ababa, Ethiopa, which taught the country's orthopaedic surgeons advanced surgical limb reconstruction techniques. Specializing in general orthopaedics, he has an interest in complex post traumatic limb reconstruction and Ilizarov surgery. Dr. Rungee has published several papers on the sports medicine, pediatric, reconstructive, and military/trauma aspects of orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Rungee is on the medical staff at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He lives in Murfreesboro with his wife and their four children. When away from the office, Dr. Rungee, an avid bluegrass enthusiast, enjoys playing the bass fiddle, banjo and guitar.
